Opperman Music Hall“The foremost trio with the greatest longevity, bring(ing) to worldwide audiences their expressive and exhilarating interpretations.” – Musical AmericaThe acclaimed Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, the gold standard of classical-music trios, presents the premiere of a new work by Pulitzer-Prize-winning composer (and FSU faculty members) Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, co-commissioned by Seven Days of Opening Nights. The renowned KLR – pianist Joseph Kalichstein, violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson – has set the pace for the piano-trio performance for more than 30 years. The trio balances the individual careers of three internationally acclaimed soloists while making annual appearances together at many of the world's major concert halls, commissioning new works and actively recording. The KLR Trio's program features Beethoven’s Piano Trio in B-flat, Schubert’s immortal “Trout” quintet, and the premiere of Zwilich’s Quintet, which takes some of its cues from Schubert’s piece. For the latter two works, the trio will be joined by guests Michael Tree (viola) and Harold Robinson (double bass).
